In April 2008, Gayla L. Butler-Culp released the inspirational CD, “He Did It For Me ". At a time when she was working though a emotional time. But she felt it had purpose because of the way the project came about in 2007, coming at a time when she was in the middle of a 1 ½ year struggle to find out what was ailing her youngest daughter. As a parent you are broken when you see your child having difficulty doing even the simplest task. It wasn’t until a year later May 2008 a month after the release of the album, that she found out Imana, age 7 had youth HD (Huntington's Disease). After 2 ½ years, her true struggle had just begun and her mission found her. She knew little about this disorder, as did many others. She was inspired to use her album to fund efforts to bring awareness, research of this disorder and the Imana K Youth Huntington's Disease Foundation which she founded in her daughters name.

Gayla will donate the net proceeds from the sale of the new release "He Did It For Me” to support funding the campaigns.

Gayla has been in the music industry for close to three decades.   She was a bright star singing and entertaining since the age of three, it was clear to many she had a gift.    At the tender age of twelve, she was discovered and asked to join a young gospel group called "The Truthettes" from Oklahoma City, OK. Her professional career was started.

The group with their soulful sound and beautiful harmonies quickly captured great attention in the music industry. As members of Malaco Records of Jackson, MS where they had one of their most notable hits “Peanut Butter and Jelly” produced by the late Frank Williams.    Gayla, had the privilege of recording five albums with the group and led her most notable song entitled "My Strongest Weakness”, written and produced by Doug Williams of the The Williams Brothers. The group of 4 girls traveled across the country performing and captivating audiences everywhere. Performing with such greats as The Legendary Mighty Clouds of Joy, Reverend Al Green, and Ms. Shirley Ceasar, just to name a few.

Shortly, after her five-year tenure had ended, she was signed to Malaco’s contemporary gospel group "The Friends", who also traveled with many of the great artists of their time. Unfortunately, the Friends were only able to stay together for their self-titled debut album, "Friends," but the members remain friends today. Continue....  .
